2014 Sauvignon Blanc

Produced from 3 cane vines, the fruit for the 2014 Sauvignon Blanc was harvested on 5th April 2014, at 22.4 Brix, followed by crushing and gentle pressing. The clear juice was cool fermented and temperature control ensured the ferment was long and slow to retain primary fruit character and aromatics. Fermentation was halted at around 6.5g/l residual sugar to balance the natural acidity of the grapes. The wine was kept on light lees for 4 months with occasional stirring - this has allowed the wine integrate somewhat and has enhanced the texture and mid-palate weight.

The wine was finished and filtered prior to bottling in August 2014.

Tasting Notes

Delicately fragrant nose showing tropical passionfruit and citrus, together with a “sea breeze” mineral note. The juicy palate shows ripe citrus, blackcurrant and peach characters, with a smooth and lingering finish.

Kina Cliffs Sauvignon Blanc 2014 is the perfect partner to pan-seared scallops, fresh seafood, chicken dishes and leafy green salads. Enjoy now or within the next 2-3 years.

★★★★★ A heaving total of just 4ha planted in grapes makes Kina Cliffs one of the smallest vineyards in the region, but this cracker sauvignon proves great things can come from the tiniest packages. Using pure, free-run juice only, this wine bursts with lemon, elderflower, passionfruit sorbet aromas and crunchy-fresh citrus and white peach flavours on the finish. I absolutely love this wine because it screams summer. Perhaps it’s because owners Julie and Alistair Ashcroft, are always keen to maximise every ounce of sunshine from the season. “I’m from Southland” Alistair shrugs, “if you can’t see the hills; it’s raining, and if you can see them; it’s about to”, 5 stars ★★★★★, Yvonne Lorkin, December 2014
The wine offer immediate appeal showing lifted aromas of stone fruit, fresh apple, feijoa and lime zest. The palate is equally attractive with excellent fruit intensity and succulent mouthfeel, leading to a fabulous long juicy finish. At its best: now to 2017. - 91/100, 4.5 stars, Sam Kim, Wine Orbit, October 2014
